Reviewed by Ken Lyn-Kew, MD
What steps can you take to prevent catching the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19)? National Jewish Health Pulmonologist and Critical Care Expert, Ken Lyn-Kew, MD explains the importance of handwashing, how to cover a sneeze with your elbow and other important preventive measures.
Dr. Lyn-Kew: From a public health standpoint, this Coronavirus should elicit respect, but not fear. We need to really concentrate on those public health things that can really make a difference. Washing our hands thoroughly and properly not touching our face, especially after we touch things out in public. When we sneeze, not doing one of these like a lot of us were taught when we were little. That getting really, really into the crook of your elbow so that you contain the particles that are coming out of your mouth when you sneeze. You're going to have a lot of people who are sick, and so this is why it is a public health concern. But for the average person, it's going to have... Their concern's going to be less unless they have a preexisting condition or they're taking care of somebody with one of these preexisting conditions.
