About the New York AIR Society

For Asthma, Immunology and Respiratory Medicine

In 1991, a group of young professionals came together to form the New York AIR Society, because some of them or their family members had been treated for asthma, allergies and/or immune system disorders at National Jewish Health in Denver. This common tie gave them the inspiration to assist National Jewish Health in its efforts.

National Jewish Health is the leading respiratory hospital in the nation and is known worldwide for groundbreaking research and the treatment of patients with lung, heart, immune and related disorders. Founded in 1899 as a nonprofit hospital, National Jewish Health remains the only facility in the world dedicated exclusively to these disorders. National Jewish Health and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have created The Mount Sinai – National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute in New York City.

The New York AIR Society is composed of a diverse group of philanthropic young professionals from a variety of industries. Since its inception, the New York AIR Society has raised more than $5 million to fund research, patient care and clinical and educational programs at National Jewish Health.

Each year, the committee plans an exciting night to honor a local leader who has shown devotion, talent and integrity in his or her industry. The Benefit includes terrific food, craft cocktails, music and dancing for 400 professionals.

For more event information, please contact Mattie L. Shepheard, Senior Associate Director of Special Events at 212.297.0857 or by e-mail. New members are always welcome. There is also a chapter in Denver, Colorado, the 5280 AIR Society.
