Can Combination Rescue Inhalers help Adolescents Control Asthma Flare Ups?
Trial Objectives
In adults with asthma, adding an inhaled corticosteroid called budesonide into albuterol rescue inhalers helps relieve asthma symptoms and prevent flare-ups. Researchers are investigating if this treatment also helps adolescents with asthma reduce their symptoms.Volunteers in the ACADIA study will be randomly assigned to receive either an inhaler with a combination of budesonide and albuterol or an inhaler with just albuterol (containing no corticosteroid). During clinic visits, they will receive breathing tests and record symptoms. At home, volunteers will have to complete a twice-daily electronic health log to record their symptoms and inhaler use.
