Night & Day Golf Classic Raises More Than $280,000 for Morgridge Academy

On June 23-24, 2024, philanthropic and business leaders gathered for a two-day event, the Night & Day Golf Classic. The event included dinner at Shanahan’s Steakhouse and a golf tournament at the Sanctuary golf course the following day to support Morgridge Academy at National Jewish Health. The annual event raised more than $280,000.

Proceeds from the event benefit Morgidge Academy, a kindergarten through 8th grade school for chronically ill children, located on the campus of National Jewish Health. Morgridge Academy is the only school of its kind in the country providing a healthy environment where students learn to manage their illnesses and succeed academically, medically and socially.

During the program at Shanahan’s, guests learned about Nahla, an 8-year-old student who once struggled in a traditional school setting because chronic illness caused her to miss class most of the time. At Morgridge, she is now thriving with a team of nurses, teachers and a social worker to help her stay on track academically, teach her how to manage her conditions and encourage her be active. She became an instant sensation at the school talent show last spring, demonstrating her judo moves by flipping her adult coach to the ground six times.

“Nahla is an example of how Morgridge Academy is truly changing lives,” said Marc Steron, managing partner of Shanahan’s and a longtime member of the National Jewish Health Board of Directors. “The difference this school makes for her and many other students who attend, is why we look forward to gathering for this event every year.” Steron and radio personality Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports once again co-chaired the event, as they have for several years.

At the Sanctuary Golf event, Joshua Wintroub, 23, made the first hole-in-one in the event’s history. His prize for acing the 14th hole was a one-year lease on a Lexus RZ450e from Lexus of Greenwood Village in Denver.

In addition to Lombardi and Steron, the National Jewish Health Night & Day Golf Classic committee included Stanton Dodge, David Engleberg, Brad Farber, Bill Lamphere, Kathy Lee and Lazlo Pook.
