Lion King-Themed Beaux Arts Ball Raises $2 Million to Benefit National Jewish Health

DENVER - The 28th annual Beaux Arts Ball presented by Bonnie and David Mandarich raised $2 million in support of National Jewish Health, the leading respiratory hospital in the nation. The March 22, 2025, event was held in a beautifully packed ballroom. Marsha and Ted Alpert, Julie Keck and Pat Hamill, Jay Mills, and Jo Ann and Martin Semple were honored at the event as 2025 Humanitarian Award recipients for their outstanding philanthropic leadership and service to the community.

“It was an honor to recognize such a distinguished group of leaders at this amazing event,” said Michael Salem, MD, President and CEO of National Jewish Health. “Their service and deep roots in the community have made a lasting impact on so many people and organizations, including our own.”

Evan Zucker, Chair of the National Jewish Heath Board of Directors, welcomed guests and thanked the many supporters for contributing to the evening’s success. Dr. Salem highlighted how the event’s theme connected with the institution’s 125-year history of hope and discovery, which has helped build the institution’s reputation as the leading respiratory hospital in the nation.

During the program, Darrell Cabanting, a husband, father, avid golfer and retired civil engineer, shared how National Jewish Health uncovered a previously undiagnosed heart condition, which had affected his lungs and led to debilitating breathing problems. By identifying the root cause of his illness, the expert cardiology team provided the life-changing care and treatment Cabanting needed to restore his health. Now he is enjoying all the activities he dreamed of in retirement, including keeping up with his three grandchildren.

Guests were entertained throughout the evening with “Lion King” inspired music, décor and choreographed performances, including a notable performance of “Simba” by a current student at Morgridge Academy, the K-8 day school for chronically ill children, located on the National Jewish Health campus.

This was the second year Bonnie and David Mandarich have served as the Presenting Sponsor, after supporting the event in a variety of ways for many years. Julie Keck and Pat Hamill were Lion King Sponsors, while Marsha and Ted Alpert & Family, Michael Salem, MD, and Meghan and Evan Zucker were Platinum Sponsors. The 2025 Beaux Arts Ball Co-Chairs included Amanda and Jonathan Alpert, Gregg Alpert, Kevin Laura, Dianna Schafer, and Jamie Van Leeuwen.
