National Jewish Health Earns WASOG Center of Excellence Award for Sarcoidosis

“This recognition underscores the longstanding expertise and dedication of our multidisciplinary team at National Jewish Health," said Lisa Maier, MD, Division Chief of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences. "Sarcoidosis can be a complex and devastating disease, and our mission is to bring together specialists across multiple disciplines to deliver the most advanced, compassionate care while also advancing research and education that improve outcomes for patients around the world.”
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect any organ in the body, most often the lungs. It is characterized by the formation of abnormal cell clusters, called granulomas, which can interfere with organ function. While there is no cure, coordinated specialty care can help manage the disease and reduce organ damage.
At National Jewish Health, patients suspected of having sarcoidosis are evaluated by a multidisciplinary team that may include pulmonologists, cardiologists, neurologists and other specialists. Together, they determine the most appropriate diagnostic testing and treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.
National Jewish Health is the leading respiratory hospital in the nation delivering excellence in multispecialty care and world class research. Founded in 1899 as a nonprofit hospital, National Jewish Health today is the only facility in the world dedicated exclusively to groundbreaking medical research and treatment of children and adults with respiratory, cardiac, immune and related disorders. Patients and families come to National Jewish Health from around the world to receive cutting-edge, comprehensive, coordinated care. To learn more, visit njhealth.org or the media resources page.
