National Jewish Health Welcomes Neurologist Misbah Azeem, MD

DENVER - National Jewish Health welcomes Misbah Azeem, MD, to its medical staff, expanding the institution’s expertise in neurology and neuroimmunology.

Dr. Azeem is a board-certified neurologist with specialized training in neuroimmunology and extensive experience caring for patients with multiple sclerosis and other complex autoimmune and inflammatory disorders affecting the nervous system. His clinical and research interests include multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD).

Dr. Azeem completed a neuroimmunology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he participated in clinical research involving multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological diseases. His research has included studies examining treatment strategies for relapsing and progressive multiple sclerosis, as well as research into factors associated with disability in people living with multiple sclerosis.

Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Azeem completed an adult neurology residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he served as chief resident during his final year. He was recognized as the program director’s Resident of the Year in 2025 and received several additional honors for clinical excellence, leadership, research and commitment to patient care.

Dr. Azeem earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India. Before completing his U.S. neurology training, he practiced internal medicine in India and later served as a primary care physician and medical director in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

His academic work has been presented at national meetings, including the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting, and he has participated in clinical trials evaluating emerging and established therapies for multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological conditions.

Dr. Azeem is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
